Finnair is planning to issue up to 12 million new shares to raise around FM500 million ($102 million) to strengthen the balance sheet and help fund a FM1.7 billion fleet replacement programme, which will see 17 DC-9s replaced by used MD-80s. The state will not participate in the share issue, cutting its stake from 71.5 per cent to 60.9 per cent.
