Finnair Technical Services has signed a new maintenance contract with KLM covering work on Boeing MD-11 aircraft during 2009.
The Dutch carrier and Finnair Technical Services started co-operating in 2006 with the deal amended last year to include work on a reciprocal basis. Finnair Technical Services has committed to purchasing technical work from Air France-KLM.
"Finnair has extensive experience with MD-11 technical support and...we can use the expertise to serve our clients outside Finnair group," says Finnair Technical Services sales manager Arne Ziessler.
More than 30% of Technical Services' annual €200 million ($269 million) turnover originates from work outside Finnair Group.
Finnair Technical Services recently announced it was to temporarily lay off workers for periods of between two weeks and three months, in a bid to save €7 million.
