AlliedSignal Aerospace has begun deliveries of its Bendix/King KLX 100, claimed to be the first hand-held aircraft radio to combine a global-positioning-system (GPS) and communications transceiver in a single unit.

The KLX 100 is aimed at recreational pilots for use as primary navigation/communications (navcom), and at professional pilots for use as a supplementary system. Aircraft position, or up to 13 lines of text, can be shown on the unit's liquid-crystal display, which uses data from a Jeppesen Navdata database.

Trimble's GPS-based TNL-8100 navigation-management system has been cleared for use throughout the entire flight regime. The new classification enables it to be used from take-off to landing.
