THE MATRA MARCONI SPACE (MMS) communications payload for the first of five planned Inmarsat 3 satellites has been delivered to Martin Marietta Astro Space. The first will be launched in December 1995 and will allow mobile communications via portable terminals. The project has been delayed for over a year because of development problems. The Inmarsat 3s are the most advanced satellites yet built for mobile satellite-communications and the first to carry multi-spot beams for this application.
