Russia will deliver the first of seven cryogenic rocket engines to India in 1996. The engine will be used to power the upper stage of the Indian geo-stationary-satellite-launch vehicle (GSLV), which is to have its maiden flight in late 1997 or early 1998. Russia's, supply of cryogenic technology to India, was banned by the USA and instead, just the engines are being supplied. India is developing its own cryogenic engine, but this will not be ready to fly from the GSLV until later in the decade.
