CHC Helicopters (Australia) is set to operate the first Sikorsky S-92 in Australia next year.

CHC has signed a letter of intent with Japanese resources company Inpex Browse to operate the S-92 in support of drilling operations off Western Australia.

The helicopter, which will be based in Broome, will be delivered to Australia in early November and enter service in the first quarter of 2007.

It will be in a 19-seat offshore configuration and will feature state-of-the-art safety features.

CHC is Australia's largest commercial helicopter company, operating 24 multi-engine aircraft and employing more than 200 personnel.
