The fleet-wide inspection and blade replacement programme initiated by All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Japan Airlines (JAL) for the Pratt & Whitney PW4000 engines powering their Boeing 777-200/300s is not expected to impact on the aircraft’s extended-range twin-engine operations (ETOPS) clearance. The action, involving PW4084s and PW4090s, follows two in-flight shutdowns of engines powering ANA 777s. ANA says broken high-pressure turbine blades were found in the engines.
