Commercial aircraft net orders came in at 258 for January 2012. There was no cancellation during the month.
The highlight of the month was the Norwegian Air Shuttle order of 122 Boeing 737s, 100 of which were for the new 737 Max. Avianca/Taca Group placed orders for A320neo, A320, A319neo and A321neo aircraft with 20, 18, nine and four respectively. Spirit Airlines also ordered 30 A320s.
Boeing totalled 150 new orders in January while Airbus received 97. China’s Xian Aircraft industrial Corporation (XAC) also received 11 orders.
In the narrowbody market, 140 737s and 88 A320 family aircraft were placed. The widebody orders in the month were for 10 787s, six A350s and three A330s. In the regional sector, the orders were for 11 MA60s.
Overall, the order backlog for airliners ended January at 9,692, up 181 on the previous month.
