Airbus has racked up 12,000 deliveries with the handover of the latest A220-100 to US operator Delta Air Lines.
The airframer had reached 11,995 deliveries at the end of April – aided by its acquisition of A220 programme, formerly the Bombardier CSeries, last year.
Airbus says the milestone figure was officially reached on 20 May with the delivery of a 12th A220 to Delta, which has 40 A220-100s and 50 A220-300s on order.
The airframer, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, delivered its first aircraft, an A300B2, to Air France in 1974.
Airbus reached its 6,000th delivery 36 years later, in 2010, but achieved the same number of deliveries over just nine subsequent years.
It is also approaching its 20,000th order overall. The airframer had reached 19,282 total orders by the end of April, aided by last year’s absorption of just over 400 prior orders for the CSeries.
Airbus has taken orders for 8,135 conventional A320-family jets and another 6,504 for the re-engined A320neo family.
Its order total also includes 2,108 A330/340s, 893 A350s, and 290 A380s – although several A380s are due to be listed as cancelled. Airbus also took orders for 816 A300/310s.
