Air New Zealand has firmed up its May commitment to order eight Boeing 787-10s that will be powered by General Electric GEnx-1B engines.
The Star Alliance carrier says in a stock exchange disclosure that it has signed the contracts for the aircraft, although it needs to be formally approved by shareholders at its annual general meeting on 25 September.
At list prices, the eight jets are valued at $2.7 billion, and will be delivered between late 2020 and 2027. They will replace its eight 777-200ERs and complement its fleet of 14 Rolls-Royce Trent 1000-powered 787-9s.
The order includes 12 options for additional 787s that can be used for any of the type’s three variants.
Air NZ intends to use the 787-10s on its Asian network and on some services to the US west coast.
