JetBlue Airways founder David Neeleman’s new US start-up carrier has tentatively agreed to acquire 60 Airbus A220-300s.
The agreement follows JetBlue’s own similar agreement to take 60 of the type, formerly known as the Bombardier CSeries.
Delivery of the twinjets for the start-up will commence in 2021, Airbus has disclosed during the Farnborough air show.
“After years of US airline consolidation, the conditions are improving for a new generation of US airlines to emerge, focused on passenger service and satisfaction,” says Neeleman.
He says the A220 will allow the new carrier to operate thin routes, with passenger comfort, without compromising costs – particularly on longer-range sectors.
A220s are powered by Pratt & Whitney PW1500G engines.
