Qantas is securing its first Airbus A321 for cargo conversion through asset specialist Vallair.
Vallair has identified the initial jet as MSN835, a 21-year old airframe equipped with International Aero Engines V2500 powerplants.
The aircraft was originally delivered to UK carrier BMI in 1998, according to Cirium's Fleets Analyzer.
It was subsequently re-registered in Turkey for operation within the fleet of Onur Air before being acquired by Luxembourg-based Vallair.
Vallair says it has signed a letter of intent with Qantas to lease the A321 for freighter conversion. It will be delivered in 2020.
Qantas Freight will use the A321P2F aircraft on routes for Australia Post.
