Spanish regional carrier Binter has exercised its two purchase rights on Embraer 195-E2s while Japan's Fuji Dream Airlines has emerged as a customer for two more E175s.
The two follow-on orders were disclosed today by Embraer during a briefing at the Paris air show.
Binter gained the purchase rights when it last year signed for three E195-E2s. Binter is set to receive its first of the type in the second half of this year – becoming the first European customer for the type. It is configuring the aircraft with 132 seats.
Fuji Dream already operates three E170s and 10 E175s and is about to take an 11th of the latter – completing delivery of the aircraft it has on firm order.
Embraer now says Fuji has signed for two more E175s, which were previously included in the manufacturer's first-quarter backlog, as undisclosed. Deliveries of the latest aircraft will start later this year.
"This will give us further opportunity to open new routes and increase frequencies," says Fuji Dream Airlines chief executive Yohei Suzuki.
Today's order follows a commitment for 20 more firm orders for E175s from United Airlines at Paris on the first day of the show. Embraer chief executive John Slattery does not rule out further announcements.
Embraer also today issued its fresh 20-year forecast of demand in the global market for aircraft with up to 150 seats. That foresees a requirement for 10,550 aircraft over the next 20 years – the same figure it projected in its forecast last year – with demand again led by carriers in Asia-Pacific with a 28% share. This closely followed by North American carriers, which Embraer sees taking 26% of all deliveries over the next two decades, and European operators 21%.
