Central European budget carrier Wizz Air has taken delivery of its final Airbus A321, with all future Airbus single-aisle deliveries exclusively set to be re-engined aircraft.
The airline had 112 of the conventional A320 family on order – comprising 40 A321s and 72 A320s – and the last A321 takes its overall fleet to 119 aircraft.
It credits the A321 with playing a "key role" in its development. A321 variants account for about half the seat capacity at the carrier.
Wizz's final A321 (HA-LTI) is powered by International Aero Engines V2500s.
The conventional A321 fleet will stay stable at 41 aircraft until 2024-25 when Wizz will begin to withdraw them, according to its most recent fleet planning document.
Wizz Air has already taken delivery of six A321neo jets out of 186 on order, and the airline has orders for 70 A320neos, the first of which has yet to be introduced.
Another 20 A321neos – in the form of the newly-launched long-range A321XLR variant – are set to be allocated to Wizz once a tentative agreement from investor Indigo Partners is firmed.
