SAS has selected the Flight Dynamics HGS-4000 head-up guidance (HGS) system for its forthcoming fleet of Boeing 737-600s. The choice marks another significant victory for the US company in the intensifying head-up-display battle with the UK's GEC-Marconi Avionics and Sextant Avionique of France.

The SAS order, for 41 systems plus 35 options, marks the European launch of the HGS-4000. This is a lighter HUD with a revised combiner and fewer parts. Ironically, it was developed after significant input from another prospective customer, American Airlines.

The US carrier has deferred its HUD decision pending new bids from Flight Dynamics and GEC: the UK company is widely expected to win the contract .
