Canadian flight school Airline Training International (ATI) has launched a Cessna 172 sale and leaseback programme to encourage customers to buy and train in their own aircraft.

Under the deal, owners make a C$50,000 ($34,000) down payment and sign a three-year lease agreement with ATI, which then uses the aircraft for flight training. The owner's share of revenues generated cover the loan payments and the cost of maintenance.

Toronto-based ATI is taking delivery of seven new 172s from Cessna and has signed sale and leaseback agreements on three. After three years, owners can sell their aircraft, renew the lease or upgrade to a Cessna 182 or 206.
