FLIGHT VISIONS will deliver a prototype head-up display (HUD) in July to Aero Vodochody in the Czech Republic, for the L-159 light-fighter programme. A flightworthy model will be delivered in November, and production of HUDs for 72 Czech air force L-159s, is due to begin in 1997.

Flight Visions, of Sugar Grove, Illinois, is providing the Sparrow Hawk display unit, up-front control panel, FV-3000 modular mission/display processor and HUD video camera for the L-159. Previous HUDs have been supplied for the Aero L-59 and L-139, Pilatus PC-7 and PC-9 and PZL Turbo Orlik trainers.

The optical unit provides a 25° field of view, and can display both stroke symbology and raster imagery. The up-front control panel, provides a keyboard and line display, for tuning radios, changing flight plans and entering mission data. Dual-redundant mission computers generate HUD symbology, and perform navigation and weapon-aiming calculations.
