FLIGHTSAFETY International (FSI) has opened a UK centre to allow US-trained UK students to complete their Civil Aviation Administration instrument-rating courses in the UK. The Coventry Airport centre has a Frasca simulator and a Piper Seneca III and is operated with a ground school provided by Aviation Training Associates.
The Vero Beach, Florida-based FlightSafety Academy recently received CAA approval to provide training for UK private and commercial pilot's licences in the USA, but the CAA requires that the flight test for the instrument rating be taken in UK airspace.
The company is now working to gain CAA approval for an airline-training programme which would result in students graduating with an air-transport pilot's licence "frozen" until they gain sufficient flying experience.
