Northwest Airlines has selected FlightSafety International to provide pilot and maintenance training for Bombardier Canadair Regional Jets (CRJs) on order for its Northwest Airlink regional affiliates.

Under the 10-year contract, extendible to 15 years, FlightSafety will locate Level D simulators for the 50-seat CRJ-200 at training centres convenient for Northwest Airlink operators. Additional devices will be provided as the fleet expands. Northwest has ordered 54 CRJs, with options on 70. Deliveries begin in April next year.

Facilities for maintenance technical training will also be provided by FlightSafety, which will tailor the courseware to Northwest's requirements.

• FlightSafety has relocated one of its six Embraer EMB-120 Level C simulators from Houston, Texas, to Long Beach, California, to provide training for Skywest Airlines. Under the same long-term contract, the company will locate a CRJ-200 simulator at Skywest's hub in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The training company also plans to install a Level D simulator for the Raytheon Beech 1900D at its Toronto centre, to provide training for operators of the regional turboprop in eastern Canada.

In the meantime, FlightSafety has received Level D certification for a Cessna Citation X flight simulator at its Toledo, Ohio, centre, and for a Dassault Falcon 50EX machine at its site in Teterboro, New Jersey.
