Boeing and FlightSafety International have fired the senior management at their FlightSafetyBoeing Training International joint venture.

"The FlightSafetyBoeing board concluded it was time for a change in leadership for the next phase of the company's growth," says chairman Al Ueltschi, who is also chairman of FlightSafety International.

FlightSafetyBoeing president Wake Smith, vice-president customers Alec White and vice-president business development Jerry Nickleburg were sacked on 12 July. Gary Scott, formerly vice-president, finance and business strategy, Boeing Commercial Aviation Services, was named president.

The company will not comment on reports of communication problems between the board and FlightSafetyBoeing management. Sources say the board was concerned about management handling of some airline customers.

FlightSafetyBoeing says both sets of shareholders remain committed to the venture, which was launched to pursue the market for pilot and maintenance training for 100 seat-plus airliners.

The board is to proceed with flight simulator acquisitions and an initiative on distance learning.
