FLIR Systems has unveiled a new digital high-definition intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance sensor dubbed Star Safire HD, which combines thermal imaging, laser ranging and target printing capabilities within a 45kg (99lb) turret. The US Army has selected the system as part of a contract that could be worth $61 million to support operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.
