All 41 passengers and four crew escaped unhurt when the left main undercarriage of a KLM City Hopper Fokker 50 collapsed during a landing on 8 December at London Heathrow Airport. The crew had alerted the emergency services after the left gear indicator showed that it had failed to lock down. Full checklist procedures, including recycling the gear and lowering it using alternative systems failed. The UK Civil Aviation Authority says that an initial inspection by investigators has not revealed any need for fleet-wide action.
