Former UK low-cost carrier Go's chief executive, Barbara Cassani, is to join the board of German budget airline Air Berlin as a non-executive director.

She will take up the post from 1 May.

Cassani founded and headed Go, the low-cost subsidiary of British Airways, before the carrier underwent a management buy-out and was sold to EasyJet.

She also briefly chaired Spanish low-cost carrier Vueling in 2007.

EasyJet's former chief commercial officer, Saad Hammad, is also joining the Air Berlin board.

Cassani's and Hammad's appointments bring the non-executive board membership at the airline to nine.
