The French defence ministry has launched two unmanned air vehicle (UAV) programmes: the MultiMission MultiCaptor (MCMM) tactical UAV for the army and the Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) UAV for the air force. Eighty MCMMs could be acquired in a 15-year €450 million ($450 million) programme. Forty will be ordered in the 2003-08 procurement plan. The 15-year, €1.1 billion MALE programme, in co-operation with the Netherlands "and any other European state wishing to join", comes under the European Capability Action Plan.
