Bombardier Regional Aircraft, having just enjoyed a record-breaking week of new orders, kicked off Farnborough ‘96 with another $60 million worth of business.

Brit air of Morlaix, France took the opportunity of a visit to the Show to sign a contract for three Canadair Regional Jets and indicated that it could well be a launch customer for Bombardier's proposed new regional aircraft, the RJX.

"I hope they will be announcing this aircraft in a minute," says Brit air president Xavier Leclerq, but Bombardier Aerospace president Bob Brown was in no haste to snap up his first customer. "You may have to wait a bit longer than that," he says.

Bombardier is expected to announce today that the company will begin taking orders and offering firm prices and performance specifications in the same way that it did for the Global Express programme. There has been speculation for some time that Farnborough would be the launchpad for the stretched 70-seat CRJ-X derivative of the Regional Jet.
