Daimler-Benz Aerospace finance director-designate Dr Wolfgang Piller has told French parliamentarians that France's defence industry must co-operate with its European neighbours to survive. Piller called for harmonisation of Franco-German procurement programmes for military technology, the creation of European centres of excellence to reduce duplication of capacity, and privatisation of the aerospace industry. "No European nation has a ghost of a chance against the overpowering defence-technology industry of the USA," said Piller in his presentation to members of the French National Assembly.
