The viability of ethanol-based fuels as an alternative to 100-octane low-lead aviation gasoline is to be explored by a task group of the American Society of Testing and Materials. The US standards body will develop specifications for ethanol-based fuels if investigations show they can be used safely in piston aero-engines.
