Flight International online news 11:30GMT: Galileo Avionica, part of Finmeccanica's Selex Sensors and Airborne Systems business, has been awarded a contract with BAE Systems in the USA to develop radio frequency (RF) components for the Lockheed Martin-led F-35 Joint Strike Fighter programme.

The components will be designed and produced at the company's plant in Palermo, Italy. The first contract covers work up to preliminary design review. This stage is likely to be followed with a development contract which would include prototype qualification of the RF components.

It follows a memorandum of understanding signed between BAE and Galileo Avionica in June 2004. BAE and Northrop Grumman are principal partners with prime contractor Lockheed Martin in the F-35.
