Galileo Avionica's Falco unmanned air vehicle successfully completed a 50min maiden flight at the Salto di Quirra range in Sardinia, in early December. The Falco is a medium-altitude, medium-endurance piston-engined UAV with a 90kt (160 km/h) cruising speed and endurance of up to 14h. It has a recovery system based on a dorsal parachute. The Falco can carry a 70kg (155lb) payload, including an electro-optical sensor suite and surveillance radar, also developed by Galileo Avionica. The company also produces the Nibbio high-subsonic surveillance UAV and the Mirach 100/5 high-performance aerial target drone for missile system qualification and training.
