Galileo Avionica is to supply a new aircraft mission management system for 30 of the UK Royal Navy's AgustaWestland EH101 Merlin HM1 multirole helicopters, as part of the Lockheed Martin UK-led Merlin Capability Sustainment Programme upgrade. The Italian company will supply the equipment between mid-2007 and 2013 under a contract of undisclosed value placed by AgustaWestland last week.
The improved system will provide aircraft navigation data acquisition, processing and management, and handle data from numerous on-board sensors. Galileo says the design will reduce support costs and enable the rapid integration of future software changes.
