General Electric (GE) has announced a joint venture with Taiwan's second-largest carrier, Eva Airways, to form an engine overhaul and aircraft maintenance joint venture, to be named Evergreen Aviation Technologies (EAT).

The Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed in Taipei on 24 February.

Eva will hold an 80% share in the company. Operating from Eva's maintenance centre in Taipei, EAT will provide engine overhaul and aircraft maintenance services for Eva and other Asia-Pacific airlines.

GE says the deal, due to be finalised in June, reflects its recognition that airlines are refocusing their efforts and looking for outside services for engine maintenance and repair.

The EAT joint venture follows GE's acquisition of Greenwich Air Services and UNC in September 1997 adding to its overhaul capacity.
