General Electric plans to establish a technology research and training site in Qatar that will be operational in 2007. The GE Technology and Learning Centre will be set up in the Qatar Science and Technology Park in recognition of the region’s growing importance to the company, and particularly to its aircraft engine business. GE says most of the investment in the centre will provide training in jet engine maintenance. “The engine training will focus on overall familiarisation, line maintenance, borescope inspection, troubleshooting, diagnostics monitoring and fleet management,” it says. The site will also house technical and mechanical services to airline customers through GE’s On-Wing support effort.
