GE Engine Services and LOT Polish Airlines signed a preliminary agreement at Le Bourget to form an aircraft engine maintenance and repair JV at Warsaw airport.

The deal is expected to be concluded later this year, following the execution of operating agreements and the receipt of the necessary regulatory and operating licences and approvals.

The new maintenance venture, to be called Central European Engine Services, will initially service the CFM56-3 engines of LOT Polish Airlines, and later, the engines of other airline customers in the region and worldwide.

Speaking at the show, Bill Vareschi, president and CEO of GE Engine Services, said: "We are pleased to join LOT in this engine maintenance endeavour, the first of its kind in eastern Europe."

LOT Polish Airways' president Jan Litwinski adds: "We look forward to joining with GE Engine Services because of its expertise in overhaul and repair processes, its management skills and its excellence in international marketing.

"This agreement can lead to long-term cooperation between GE and LOT which is very important to us and Poland."
