First Choice Airways has selected the General Electric GEnx engine to power the six Boeing 787s it has on order, plus six options, making it launch customer for the US-built engine on the new Boeing. The UK charter airline selected the GE engine over the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000, which is lead powerplant on the 787. "Building on existing GE technology, we believe the GEnx engines will provide strong technical reliability as well as helping us to meet future environmental targets," says First Choice Airways' managing director Chris Browne. "We will work closely with GE on engine development over the next two years." First Choice will receive its first 787 in 2009.
