Germanwings parent company Lufthansa Group is the latest to adopt a new cockpit occupancy procedure in the wake of the French Alps Airbus A320 crash.
The group states that, in line with German civil aviation administration LBA, it will require the presence of two people in the cockpit at all times during flight.
Several airlines already adhered to such a policy but a number of others have opted to switch to the procedure after preliminary indications that the first officer on the A320 deliberately caused the accident.
Lufthansa Group says it will introduce the change “as soon as possible”. It adds that it will create a new position, group safety pilot, to help refine safety processes among the company’s airlines. It has named Lufthansa safety pilot Werner Maas to the post.
