Low-cost carrier germanwings is in advanced negotiations with Basel-Mulhouse airport on the Franco-Swiss border about opening a new base. This would be the German carrier's fourth base and the first located outside Germany. Rival budget carrier easyJet set up a base in Basel earlier this year.
