Boeing Satellite Systems (BSS) will expand its satellite manufacturing factory in El Segundo, California, by 30%. The site is already the largest of its kind in the world.

BSS has a backlog valued at $4.8 billion with more than 38 satellites, plus 12 new Block IIF Global Positioning Satellites. The expansion is "in anticipation of GPS and other commercial and defence business", says Randy Brinkley, BSS president. Meanwhile, the BSS-led industry team building the Wideband Gapfiller Satellite (WGS), high capacity military satellite communications system says it has successfully completed preliminary design reviews.
