GKN Aerospace has signed a multi-million-dollar contract with EADS Airbus of Hamburg to design and manufacture cargo door actuators for _the Airbus single-aisle family, including the A318/319/320/321.The contract is worth about $50 million over the course of the programme. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in January 2002.The contract teams two GKN Aerospace companies in offering the client a complete solution package, from design to manufacture.
Developed
The actuators will be designed and developed by Engage, the UK-based engineering services provider, and made at GKN Westland-Sitec, near Munich.
GKN Aerospace managing director Kevin Smith says: "This award gives GKN Westland-Sitec the opportunity to develop a partnership in hydraulics with Airbus. "It also underlines the value to prime contractor customers of the integrated aerospace services GKN Aerospace can deliver since its consolidation into a Tier 1 supplier."
