The "jewel in the crown" of the Bombardier product portfolio flew into Farnborough from Montreal. The Global Express is one of a new breed of ultra-long-range business aircraft.

Certificated just five weeks ago, the aircraft is set for deliveries to begin this winter. The company sees a worldwide market for 550 to 800 ultra-long-range aircraft and based its own programme on 250 sales. To date it has notched up 80 sales.

It is designed to meet the trend toward globalisation, says Mike Graff, Bombardier Aerospace Business Aircraft president. "People want security and speed and they prefer non-stop flights. We designed our aircraft to meet these needs."

The company says it sought to meet three key design criteria: superior performance, including excellent short field performance; superior cabin comfort; and superior dispatch reliability.
