Loral-backed satellite mobile phone system operator Globalstar, which is in Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, aims to raise an extra $100 million to advance its stand-alone business plans. It has a $3 billion debt and is discussing financial links with Inmarsat and Intelsat. The 48-satellite system has just 70,000 subscribers and lost $602 million in 2001.
