GMF AeroAsia has become the first MRO contractor in Indonesia to receive design organisation approval (DOA) by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for cabin interior modifications.
The scope of the DOA enables GMF to make minor changes and minor repairs on cabin interiors and associated avionics and structures of aircraft such as the Boeing 737, 747, 777 and Airbus A320 and A330.
In a statement, GMF says the certification took nine months and five certification phases – a process described by Irfansyah Nasution, GMF’s head of design organization as “faster than expected, since it usually takes one to two years”.
“Our target for GMF DOA is to obtain the EASA certificate of approval for major repair in 2016,” Irfansyah adds.
With the certification, the MRO contractor says it is targeting regional markets by offering design services for airlines such as Garuda Indonesia, Citilink and Sriwijaya Air.
