Indian start-up Go Air has signed a lease deal with GATX for four A320s currently operated by Brazil’s TAM. The aircraft, powered by International Aero Engines V2500s, will be delivered by early next year, say industry sources.

These four A320s will not be the launch aircraft because Go Air plans to begin operations in October with other used A320s it is still trying to secure.

The new low-cost carrier is in talks with several other leasing companies and aims to operate a fleet of nine to 11 used A320s by the end of its first year of operation. It is also reviewing plans to acquire 20 new narrowbodies plus 20 options (Flight International, 7-13 June).

TAM plans to replace the GATX A320s, manufactured in the early 1990s, with new A320s.
