A joint NATO member navy exercise, including US Navy battle groups, will be the setting for trials of a new Rockwell Collins HF Messenger system this summer.

HF Messenger upgrades existing high frequency (HF) radio systems to e-mail capability and provides fast, digital cost-effective, wireless messaging between ships and ship-to-shore. The new system, which offers error-free e-mail, replaces current teletype networks and out of date computer-to-computer exchanges.

The system links battle groups with wide area network-type connections and provides broadcast, multicast, or point-to-point communications.
