Under an initial "good faith" contract of $2 million, Alcatel is to begin building six E-Sat data messaging satellites for the Echostar Communications and DBS Industries consortium that will utilise the US Federal Communications Commission licence issued to the original E-Sat company. Three E-Sats will be launched on each of two Eurokot launchers, the first scheduled for October 1999.
