Honeywell (Stand B11, Hall 5) is to offer its Airborne Flight Information System (AFIS) graphical weather service on Version 6 of its NZ-2000 Flight Management System (FMS) from September.

AFIS presents the pilot with a selection of map displays showing information such as ground weather radar returns, significant hazardous weather, airport meteorological conditions and winds aloft.

Aircraft operators with AFIS and 5.x-version NZ-2000s can add AFIS graphical weather without rewiring their aircraft.

Upgrading

The retrofit is done by upgrading the AFIS and flight management system software and replacing the current control display unit with a plug-and-play version.

"By integrating AFIS graphical weather with the NZ-2000 and overlaying the flight plan on the weather, we will give pilots the spatial orientation they need to make better strategic decisions and improve flight safety," says Scott Hamilton, Honeywell's director for flight information services.

AFIS graphical weather is also offered on the Honeywell GNS-XLS flight management system.
