FlightSafety International has launched its first PC-based image generator, Vital X, completing the visual simulation industry’s shift to commercial graphics technology. With Dassault subsidiary Sogitec developing the PC-based Apogee 6 image generator, all the major industry players now have products based on commodity graphics chips.
FlightSafety expects to begin Vital X deliveries by the middle of next year, once it has developed a calligraphic board to meet the requirements of Level D flight simulators and is able to replace its current Vital 9 system, which uses proprietary electronics. “The latest PC technology is the first that is really competitive with Vital 9,” FlightSafety says.
