European electronics company Elta (booth A317) has gained certification for its new survival emergency locator beacon (ELT).
The ADT406S is the first to pass the most recent, more stringent Cospas-Sarsat tests and to obtain ETSO and TSO certification.
It is the only survival ELT equipped with salt and freshwater activation, while also possessing a built-in removable identification mode and float-free capability.
Cospas-Sarsat is an international search and rescue satellite system that can pick up signals from distress beacons like the ADT406S and pass them on to nearby rescue control centres.
Jet Airways, FlyMe, JetBlue, Air France and Alaska Airlines have already selected the ADT406S and new requirements for international airlines mean that many major US airlines are starting to equip their fleets with 406MHz survival ELTs.
This follows the selection of the ADT406AF, an automatic fixed ELT, by a leading US overnight package carrier.
Elta head of worldwide sales Philip Male says: “In the new ADT406S we have developed a new, unique and lightweight – yet robust – system fully compatible with all Cospas-Sarsat protocols.”
Elta has service centres in Singapore, China, the USA (covering Canada and Mexico), the UK (also covering the Middle East) and Latin America. It is a subsidiary of the French Areva Group and Germany’s OHB Technology.
