Goodrich has developed a steel brake for use on the Pilatus AircraftPC-12. The US company already supplies carbon brakes for the aircraft, and the addition of the steel unit is in response to customer demand. Retrofits will be available early next year when the brake also becomes the standard fit on new aircraft with its more expensive carbon counterpart offered as an option. Goodrich says the carbon brake allows the maximum use of the payload and range of the aircraft, while the steel brake costs less to operate.
