Alenia Aeronautica is installing the Athena Technologies GuideStar GS311 flight control system into its Sky-X unmanned air vehicle modular demonstrator.
Unveiled last year, the 5.74m (18.8ft)-wingspan Sky-X is intended to develop a series of UAV technologies using a common airframe.
The GuideStar control system has been selected because of its already-demonstrated capabilities on UAVs.
The maiden flight of the Sky-X is scheduled for 2005, at the military Salto di Quirra test range in Sardinia.
