China's Hainan Airlines has selected the Pratt & Whitney PW4000 over the General Electric CF6 and the Rolls-Royce RB211 to power up to 10 Boeing 767-300ERs ordered earlier this year.

Chinese sources say the deal is due to be signed this month.

Hainan agreed earlier this year to buy 10 767s for expansion into international operations. The government has approved the first three aircraft (to be delivered from July next year). Approval is expected soon to firm up the conditional deal on the remainder (three due for delivery in 2003, two in 2004 and two in 2005).
